The names and colors filled me with joy and sent me on my love affair with curiosity and nature. I think it has helped shape me into a very curious, thoughtful adult. I was a voracious reader as a kid (still am) but that one book has stuck with me above all others. I read often now and have recently started reading more books about flowers. They were biographies of folks like George Washington Carver, Amelia Earhart, and Abraham Lincoln. I always loved East of Eden by John Steinbeck. my interests spanned from fairy stories to encyclopedias on animals, fish, birdsbut the one book that came up this morning was Where the Lilies Bloom, by Vera and Bill Cleaver. Cant wait to check this book out! I now enjoy living away from the city and people. I have three young kids at home and find myself mostly reading childrens literature once again. When I was a kid, I didnt read much and didnt have many books. As a youngster any book to do with horses was my jam! It was delightful to read again as an adult with my own children. As I turned into a teen it was more fantasy and memoirs which is a weird combination. Her storytelling stems from her own life and the real life characters in her family and friends make these books so endearing. I was especially fascinated by the way Violet could tackle any problem by building something out of the materials she had, which were seemingly worthless items such as scrap metal and hair ribbons. As a child I was given the book A Childs Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson and illustrated by Gyo Fujisawa. As an adult Im still thinking about our planet but now its how to make it a little bit prettier with flowers as well as what can I do to be kind to the planet that I always read about when I was little. When I was younger, my favorite books were fantasy stories. I loved her adventures and the fact she was always striving to make the world more beautiful. So grab a snack and get ready to rhyme!
